Luis Miguel Clemente
Luis Miguel Clemente is a prominent Portuguese conductor, recognized as one of the most charismatic, talented and stimulating of his generation. An energetic conductor with impeccable technique, motivated by a deep belief in the positive power of music to unite and inspire people, he carries out an intense professional activity in Portugal and abroad.
In recent years, Luis Miguel Clemente has made a name for himself internationally, performing in Portugal, Spain, England, France, Switzerland, Moldova, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Greece, Canada, the USA, Mexico, Slovakia and Myanmar as a conductor, teacher of orchestral conducting and jury member in international competitions for conductors. In 2019, he has scheduled projects in Portugal, Spain, Taiwan, Italy, Lebanon, Germany, Ireland, Italy and England.
He was awarded the Leonard Bernstein Chair for Best Conductor by the Caja Rural de España Foundation (Spain). He won the International Conducting Competition in Budapest (Hungary) in 2012 and, recently, his performance with the Pacific Region Festival Orchestra (Canada) was awarded 1st prize in the Pacific Region Young Soloist Competition. He was awarded the distinction for artistic merit by the Rotary Club of Powell River (Canada) and also by the Rotary Club of Covilhã (Portugal). Between 2007 and 2018, he was honored several times by the Honorable Mayor of Portel, in recognition of the cultural impact and artistic excellence of the National Wind Orchestra project in local cultural life.
His work as a conductor includes collaborations with the European Union Youth Wind Orchestra, the Pacific Region Festival Orchestra, Orquestra do Algarve, Filarmonia das Beiras, Zagreb Chamber Orchestra, Constantza Symphony Orchestra, Duna Symphony Orchestra of the University of Murcia, Rundfunk Blasorchester, Chamber Orchestra of Moldova, Constantza Symphony Orchestra, Duna Symphony Orchestra of Budapest, Orquestra de Cuerdas de la Universidad de Murcia, Rundfunk Blasorchester Leipzig, Shenn-Yun Symphony Orchestra of New York, Ensemble Equilibrium of Rome, St. Anne's Camerata of the University of Murcia. Anne's Camerata of Oxford University, West Texas A&M Symphony Orchestra, Filarmonía Xalapa and the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, among others.
Luis Miguel Clemente is currently in the final stages of his research for a PhD in Orchestral Conducting at the University of Aveiro, with his thesis focused on the phenomenological study of conductor Carlos Kleiber's technique.
In 2014 he obtained a Specialization Diploma in Performance - Orchestra Conducting from the University of Aveiro.
He holds a Postgraduate and Master's degree in Performing Arts: Music from Maryland University (USA).
Between 2007 and 2011 he perfected his studies in orchestral conducting with conductor Jan Cober at the ISEB Higher Institute (Italy), graduating with the best grade in his class.
He has a degree in Musical Sciences from Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
He has a degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in London.
He trained as a conductor with Alexander Polischuk, Jean Sebastien Berreau, Ernest Schelle, Arturo Tamayo, Michael Dittrich, Josep Pons and Colin Metters.
